Baritone Gene Wu has been seen on many stages around Canada performing a wide variety of operatic repertoire. Mr. Wu’s most recent performances include: the title role in SWEENEY TODD (Opera By Request); Don Pizzaro in FIDELIO (Oshawa Opera); the Mandarin in TURANDOT (Manitoba Opera); the title role in RIGOLETTO (Calgary Concert Opera); Prince Yamadori in MADAMA BUTTERFLY (Opera Lyra Ottawa); and Yakusidé in MADAMA BUTTERFLY (Canadian Opera Company). Other operatic highlights include: Scarpia in TOSCA (Opera By Request); Silvio in PAGLIACCI (Opera Lyra Ottawa); Junius in THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA (Opera on the Avalon); Antonio in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (Opera Hamilton); Duglas D’Angus in LA DONNA DEL LAGO (Opera In Concert); and Ford in FALSTAFF (Summer Opera Lyric Theatre). In addition, he has been heard as the Musiklehrer & Harlekin in ARIADNE AUF NAXOS, and as Figaro in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA (Toronto Summer Music Festival); and has appeared as the Speaker in THE MAGIC FLUTE (Vancouver Opera); Emilio Picariello in FILUMENA, and the title role in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, both with the Banff Centre. Mr. Wu was also a soloist in the Canadian premieres of the children’s opera NAOMI’S ROAD (Vancouver Opera), and DEAD MAN WALKING (Calgary Opera).
