BIO – Ralph McIntosh (Baritone)

Ralph and his wife Debbie moved to Sudbury in 1982 when he began his music education career at Churchill Public School where he taught Grade 6-7-8. In 1986 he joined the staff at Sudbury Secondary School as a Program Leader in the Board’s new Performing Arts Program, where he taught secondary level courses in voice, keyboard, and musical theatre, and served as musical director for the school’s choirs. Over the next 20 years, Ralph and his colleagues developed new music courses, staged countless variety shows and musicals, produced six student recordings, and taught a number of the Sudbury area’s current cohort of music teachers. In 2005 he became the Board’s Arts Education Coordinator, where he had a significant impact at the elementary, secondary, and provincial levels.

It was during this time that Ralph was approached by some of his former students to be involved in the first Opera Gala in 2011, and he is delighted to be sharing the stage with them again. Around the same time, Ralph began his current terms as Chair of the Joan Mantle Music Trust and General Manager of the Young Sudbury Singers.

After retiring from teaching in 2015, Ralph assumed his current role as the Director of Education at the Sudbury Theatre Centre. He continues to share his talents in the community as a vocalist, choir member, accompanist, event producer and arts advocate, and thanks his wife Debbie and children Erin and Kevin for their many years of support and encouragement.
